The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a highly experienced medical team. Our facility cares for patients with severe illness that requires close monitoring and advanced life-sustaining interventions.
Our ICU team includes consultants, specialized intensivists, respiratory therapists and critical care nurses.
The Intensive Care Unit is an inpatient treatment unit caring for patients with a broad range of life-threatening illness – including severe infections, respiratory, heart, kidney and liver failure.
The unit also treat and monitor patients after complex surgeries. The Intensive Care Unit provides specialized treatment with a multidisciplinary team of caregivers who monitor and stabilize critically ill patients 24 hours a day.
The ICU receiving patients referred from the Emergency department of the hospital or from external hospitals. The caregivers at the ICU coordinate with the referring department in order to identify the medical issues that need to be addressed.
The treatment of life-threatening critical illness requires experts in intensive care medicine. Depending on the patient’s condition, the intensive care consultants may order imaging studies like x-rays, CT scans, or echocardiograms. Frequent blood test monitoring is also an integral part of illness management in the ICU.
Patients in the ICU who need respiratory support may require the use of ventilator whether invasive or non invasive,others who need cardiac support they will be on continuous cardiac monitoring and they will receive the appropriate cardiac medications if needed.
